Some #querytip advice: be sure to follow the HOOK, BOOK, COOK formula in your query letters!
Hook: Here you will introduce your book in terms of age category, genre, word count, etc!
Book: Tell us about your book. Remember this is not a synopsis so give us the gist - think of it

+ I have never read a perfect manuscript on sub. When I read, I think “Can I fix this? Can I sell this this?” Minor mistakes don’t usually kill a book for me. That said, make it your best work! Never submit something you know has problems you can fix. twitter.com/hooksnbooks/st…Literary Agent

@laurenspieller Thank you for doing this! If a book is part 1 of a fully fleshed out series, would you like to learn a bit more about the series in the query?Nope, keep the focus on this book, and add "with series potential" at some point in the query #querytip

Lunch break #askagent! Anyone got any questions? In the meantime, here's a thread of #querytips!#Querytip: be clear about what you protagonist WANTS. It's not enough to know what happens to them. I need to know who they are and what they want so that I can appreciate what is DRIVING the story (hint: it should be your character!)

A piece of advice for all #amquerying writers, keep writing and keep trying! What's not a great fit for one agent may be the perfect fit for another. Keep going, you are all amazing writers in your own individual ways! #WritingCommunity #writers #write #querytip

Lately I've been getting a lot of queries comping To Kill a Mockingbird... please try to pick comp titles from the last few years! We all know the classics too, but agents need a sense that your book will fit into the contemporary market. #querytip #amquerying #writingcommunity

#QueryTip Know category, genre, and word count, as well as 2-3 recent comps, published in the last three years with strong sales: “[TITLE] is [COMP] meets [COMP] with ________ of [COMP]." Then explain how the book fits into the market + reader appeal. #amquerying

@agentemurph @taralazar @AliMoss @joanpaq @tiffanygharvey @SteveJankousky @literaticat @JoyceGrackle Our guidelines allow one to send another ms anytime, I still suggest taking a breath before you do to think about the draft, the pitch, the place in the market for the story, and if the agent would be the right fit for the project.Lastly, a #QueryTip:
Send queries in rounds, adhering to each agent’s submission guidelines. Don’t send all at once. Give yourself time between each submission round to rethink your strategy and pitch, revise, etc.
Best of luck!

Reminder to writers: When you get an offer make sure you let all the agents who have your work know, not just the ones who have requested pages but the ones with just a query too

When it's time to query, DON'T be afraid but DO make sure you're ready. That means check the guidelines and revise, have beta or critique partners look at it, and get it in the best shape possible. #querytip #asktheeditor
