@NaomisLitPix Thank you, I understand. I'm just aware of the SFF "everyone's writing a series" trope and I'm thinking there is a stereotype there for some agents that I want to avoid (maybe I just spend too much time on Reddit!) I've also got another standalone WIP to pitch first as well.I see. Well,I don't speak for other agents, but I would not request a 400k word book subbed to me. I need word count of the book I will ask to read: bk 1, if a series. I don't need total series wordcount in query, nor all requested books sent at once b4 I've read first. #querytip

If you’re an epic fantasy or space opera writer though, it better be at least 120k words. Basically, pay attention to the rules of your genre twitter.com/mary_c_moore/s…High word count doesn't deter me from requesting manuscripts unless it's over 200k, but it's pretty easy to see in 1st 3 chapt if words are used wisely. #querytip

I've had a lot of questions lately about if/when writers should hire freelance novel editors. I want to go over a few suggestions. #amediting #amwritingGreat thread for writers thinking about hiring a professional editor! #amediting #amwriting #amquerying #querytip #writers

#QueryTip Before you query, check the opening pages. Does your opening line raise a question? Does the story start in scene? Are the stakes clearly established? Make sure you engage the reader (agent). #amwriting #amquerying

Don't try to contort your book into something it's not to woo an agent (ex: calling a commercial thriller literary fiction). Instead, use tools like #MSWL, Pub Marketplace, and @poetswritersinc to find folks who want exactly what you're writing. #querytip

i’m seeing a lot of previously unpublished authors comp their books to incredibly written books that were not debuts, which is perfectly fine but it also misses a key thing about debuts: they need to outshine their peers just to get a seat at the table.👇Take Saba's advice and show agents how well you know TODAY'S publishing market. Excite them with your debut by comping to other exciting (recent) debuts. #querytip
