I hadn't updated my actual #MSWL page since starting the new agency, but I did so today--if you're interested, you can find a more detailed discussion of what I'm looking for in submitted projects this coming year here:

In both F and NF though, I'm pretty open minded on subject matter. I mostly get excited about quality of writing and expertise; if you're a good stylist and can be trusted on the topic, we'll figure out how to make other people care about it. #MSWL

Twitter's not the right place for this probably, but just in case: I work on more academic-leaning stuff like trade science and history (especially if it has a cultural angle as described above). Particularly a fan of physics and biology writing. #MSWL

Essays/commentary are probably worth calling out on their own. We're seeing all kinds of engaging work happening in literary NF right now and if you're as excited about it as I am, send me your stuff please #MSWL

I never quite know how to reverse-engineer a fiction commission like one needs to on #MSWL day, so how about this: here's my 2019 reading list. I liked each of these to varying degrees, but I was drawn enough to them at first to want to buy them? That feels somewhat useful.

Honestly liked this one enough to say that if you feel your work is in this vein--and not just on the level of literal subject matter, you'll know what I mean if you read it--I hope you'll send me a query. #MSWL

Obviously I am incredibly logged on; if you or your book feels at home in Weird/Left Twitter, I bet we would get along #MSWL

Tied to that: political/cultural issues related to American life, or life in places over which America casts a shadow #MSWL

Essays/cultural crit about modern living, particularly if from a perspective that's too often unheard in the flood of Thinkpieces #MSWL

I really love ambitious, far-reaching novels with a strong sense of place. Think CITY ON FIRE, or A BRIEF HISTORY OF SEVEN KILLINGS #MSWL
