#askagentbla do you have any agent pet peeves? Or overall things that turn you off when reading a query and sample pages?I hate when someone starts with just Literary Agent instead of my name. I hate floating voices (starting with dialogue with no context). Prologues. Ignoring guidelines. #askagentbla

Do you accept R&R or future queries, if you have only provided a 'form rejection' beforehand?#AskAgent
#askagentBLA
I don't like unsolicited R&R's personally, but future queries, of course. #askagentbla

@Natalie_Lakosil I’m sorry, this might be a silly question, but what’s a DUMMY? #askagentBLAA picture book dummy! :) It's a mock-up of a picture book text with sample art and sketches. Only needed if you're an author/illo. #askagentbla

#askagentBLA what advice would you give a writer who’s afraid to query agents but really wants to get their idea out there?Drink a lot of wine and press SEND. #askagentbla Ok but really, you can also try Twitter pitch events?

#askagentBLA what’s normally the next step after giving notice that you’ll rep an author?I like this idea, that I can just give someone notice I'm their agent now and not have to fight off any others 😆 #askagentbla

In what format should a PB manuscript be submitted? Double spaced, font, PDF or Word? #askagentBLAWhoops, forgot to add, if it's a DUMMY then in PDF. If the PDF is too big provide a link to a Dropbox or something. #askagentbla

In what format should a PB manuscript be submitted? Double spaced, font, PDF or Word? #askagentBLATNR 12, word, double spaced, helpful to put a space between where you envision page breaks #askagentbla

@bradfordlit @naziaso follow-on here, is the synopsis most important to you as an indicator of potential plot holes, understanding the arc of the story, quality of writing, or something else? #askagentblaunderstanding the arc of the story. I use it to help edit when pacing and stakes aren't adding up with clients, though. #askagentbla

@Natalie_Lakosil One last question (TY so much!) I wrote book bc I was 7 time bridesmaid and saw hole in market. Is that enough of a NF platform? Is platform an issue with this kind of humor NF? Thanks #askagentblaIt can be. Platform is traditionally the answer to why are YOU the best one to be writing this book? But with a gift/humor book, it could just be damn good. But a LOT of them have platform of popular blogs/tumblrs/buzzfeeds etc. #askagentbla

Is it necessary or not recommended to nudge agents who have your first 100 pages? And after how long? 8 weeks? 12 weeks? or NEVER? #askagentblaI wouldn't say it's necessary, and it's not unreasonable. Just know the agent you are nudging likely knows very well they still have not read your work and feel all the guilty feels but that does not mean they don't care or don't intend to read. 12 weeks seems fair? #askagentbla

Do you prefer query letters to have a “log line” or two explaining why a writer is specifically* querying to you or would prefer the writer to jump straight into MS plot? I always hear differing opinions here! #askagentBLAI don't have a preference, personally! I think it doesn't hurt, if you have something personal to add (met you at x conference, loved your blog post/client book, etc) #askagentbla

If an agent has a partial/full they requested from me and I've done significant revisions since I sent it, what's the best way to send them the new pages? Do I ask first or just send them the pages with a polite email? #askagentblayou can do either. I don't mind when I get an email with a revised...however, if you send me like five different versions before I have a chance to read that's annoying. #askagentbla

#askagentBLA While I am waiting on 2 agents who requested a ms. in a Twitter contest, I also received love from an editor in another Twitter contest. How do agents feel about unrepped writers subbing to editors? The editor is with a big, traditional publisher.I hate it, personally. You only get one first impression and I've never met a manuscript I didn't want to edit. I'd much rather you save that note of interest for when it's time to go on sub. #askagentbla

Do you know if the market is still favorable to YA retellings or is that trend fading/gone? #askagentblaMy answer to this question is that technically everything is recycled bits and pieces of lore and stories we cobble together, so no, retellings are never going away. But you're doing one that was recently done a lot/already, sure there may be fatigue. #askagentbla

#askagentBLA what is a good definition for the word "query"? I want to ask but after googling it only confused me even more.A cover letter that tells me the hook of your book, enough to make me want to turn to pages, perhaps why you chose to query me, and a little about who you are. #askagentbla

Is paranormal making a comeback in fantasy to the point where agents are looking for it again? #askagentBLASort of. The market is weird; people are looking for fresh. I think it still has to be fresh. #askagentbla

#askagentBLA What do you think of "series potential" in a query? I'm writing a standalone book, but the concept lends itself well to a series. Not a trilogy or multi-part story, per se, but more individual "episodes." Should I bother saying "series potential," or is it overdone?I don't personally think you need to say it, but it won't hurt anything. #askagentbla

#askagentBLA Have funny parody PB for bridal showers. It's PB w/last 2 page history/tips/gift ledger. Do I query NF or PB agents? Also, have done ton research to confirm changing bride book market, should I mention this or is it rude (bc agent would know market already) TYQuery agents who rep adult humor/gift books. Sure, mention your research. #askagentbla

Do publishing certificate/ Masters programs help in regard to getting your foot through the agenting door? Any tips for some who’s trying? Thanks!#askagentBLA
Not really. I mean, they provide mentorships sometimes, or could lead to an internship which could lead to a personalized connection, but they're really more for craft than business. #askagentbla
