Full disclosure: I want this so much I can even 'see' the title: WHEN IN DOUBT, ADD EMPATHY #MSWL
(...and that includes adding empathy in how we treat our many selves.)

I am reading Danielle Evan's BEFORE YOU SUFFOCATE YOUR OWN FOOL SELF and it's...perfection. Layer upon layer of all the essential story elements. Writing that melts into your soul. #amquerying writers: we know short story collections are a tough sell but I AM HERE FOR IT! #MSWL

AFTERSHOCKS by @NadiaOwusu1 is officially my favorite memoir everβΒ #amquerying writers this is the perfect example of how to share stories with specificity, vulnerability, and, of course, beautiful writing. And I love the world history woven into the protagonist's journey. #MSWL

I just finished THE OFFICE OF HISTORICAL CORRECTIONS by @daniellevalore and it is the BEST short story collection I've ever read. Sharp, inquisitive, prescient. The writing on a line level is perfection. The stories are expertly-shaped magic. #MSWL

@ceciliaclyra I must crush used eggshells into bits. My first mother was adamant that if you don't witches would come by night, steal them, use the shells as boats to travel to a place where they find curses to use on people.I was 6 when she passed, 30yrs and I still do it. π
Here's what I have to say about that: #MSWL π

If Iβm going to spend time inside someoneβs head, I want them to be messy and conflicted. I want them to feel envy, greed, shame. I want them to be manipulative and deceitful. I want them their inner life to be at odds with their public persona. I do not want them to be nice.

I am intrigued by characters who want to be good people, but keep making the wrong choices (habits are hard to break, esp if it comes from a place of trauma). I appreciate characters who are, in fact, good people, but who canβt see it (maybe they are hiding a shameful secret?).

A conclusion: I donβt like reading about nice characters. By βniceβ I mean characters who genuinely think theyβre good people. I am drawn to characters who have to pretend to be nice to survive (especially if theyβve learned it the hard way). #MSWL #WritingCommunity

I'm about halfway through this gem by @SusanMihalic and all I can say is that it's disturbing AF: dark and twisty and rife with taboo --- exactly the sort of story I'd love to represent #MSWL
