A query is like the back cover copy —it gives you just enough info to say READ ME

A synopsis tells the whole story beginning to end with spoilers and should also show character arc

Reminder to authors that you do not need to pay someone to query for you. Sending a query to an agent shouldn’t cost you anything and as long as you Google-How to write a query-I promise you are already ahead of the game.

I don’t know about other agents but the number of queries I get a day has skyrocketed
Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome to have so many to look at it’s just taking me twice as long to go through them all
This means querying writers need extra patience #querytip

Reminder to querying authors: Make sure you delete all the comments left by critique partners/beta readers. Not that I don't find them interesting, I do, but you probably don't want me reading those instead of your MS & they are way too tempting for me not to look at. #querytip

Here's an idea... If you do have a completed story that starts this way, comment below, and I will pick one (or more) at random to review your synopsis and help you find a better (more compelling) starting off point.

#writingtip: You don't have to tell us a character nods their head. They can just nod. It's not like they can nod their knees, or elbows.

vs.
Bob nodded.

Writers: If you set up your document correctly when you start writing you should never have to use the tab key to indent your paragraphs. If you don't know this trick, google it and figure it out now. Your future agent and editor will thank you.

Writers if you’re going to give your MC awesome superpowers make sure you show us how they’ll be used in the synopsis cause when that reads like a strict contemporary romance we’re left wondering why the superpowers at all 🤷‍♀️
