#Subtip - Make sure you accept/reject all your track changes and remove all comments in your document before submitting. I've come across several that are a visual rainbow of track changes, and it makes it almost impossible to read.

Another thing I'm seeing are a lot of books that are "series" where the first is basically just the build-up to the actual story in book 2. Ultimately, an entire "back story" book.
Don't wait for book 2 for all the good stuff to happen.

5) People sending pages without a query or synopsis - just pages
6) Books that list their genre as two completely different thing (ex: MG & WF)
7) The "generic" query - meaning it doesn't even include my name - just says "Query" at the top

3) Books separated into multiple books because they're over word count standards for the genre
4) Pages that aren't double spaced

The problem with starting your query with a rhetorical question is that if the question doesn’t mean something to the reader it loses its impact.

For me, I need a reason a “contemporary” book is set in the 80s or 90s. The 90s were almost 20 years ago. That means for a YA book teens today weren’t even alive then. (Or for 19-year-olds they were only 1) #SlushInsight #querytip
