If you sub to a publisher, read their books. Through them, you'll learn what they like and get a better feel for the publisher. #querytip

Do your research before submitting to an agent or publisher. Read up on them, check submission guidelines closely. #QueryTip

So instead of saying you are seeking rep. to an editor, you might say, you're seeking publication or something similar. #querytip

On that note, if you say you are 'seeking representation' it's a sign you copied and pasted. Editors acquire, not represent. #QueryTip

Personalize your query, it shows that you did your research and care about who you are submitting to. #QueryTip

Before you sub to someone, do your research. Make sure they are right for you! #QueryTip

If you compare and say, "fans of such and such will enjoy my book," that's different, and acceptable. #querytip

Don't ever slam other books in your pitch or say yours is better. Just don't. It will likely result in an instant rejection. #querytip
