A gentle reminder that calling YA "NA" does not make it so. #Querytip #querytrenches #asktheeditor

DON'T RUSH. Take time & get the book as shiny as possible. Have other eyes on it. Let it sit. Polish again. The biggest check on my wishlist is good writing! The better shape it's in, the more likely I am to request. #asktheeditor #querytip #querying

@CyLantyca @LisaGreenEdito2 Mood. mines 195kHonestly, that's a bit long no matter what. I'd seriously look at either editing down toward 100 as far as possible or seeing if it can really be 2 books. FYI #querytip

Something I've seen several times lately: Do NOT query until you have a finished manuscript to send! It's disappointing to request something and then hear it doesn't exist fully. :( #querytrenches #querytip #asktheeditor

Hey guys I know you want an offer of publication, but if something sets off alarm bells, don't jump in anyway. A publisher will not ask you for money. That's a huge red flag. #pubtip #querytip #asktheeditor

@LisaGreenEdito2 What are the features of the first chapter of the book that attracts you to the book?So this question deserves an entire workshop. I have one on this LOL, but the biggest thing I can say in a tweet is to make sure you've edited, had other eyes on it, and it's well written and relevant/necessary to the story. It's a promise to the reader #querytip #asktheeditor

Here's a big #querytip for you from #asktheeditor
If you've already queried me, UNLESS you've significantly revised the manuscript (& I've signed some so that's a real thing), please don't try again thinking I'd forget, or worse yet, forget to track who you've queried already
Editor
#querytip When you write the letter, PERSONALIZE it. DON'T: Say I'm seeking representation when querying an editor (possibly the majority of my queries). I'm not an agent. DO: mention something that let's me know you know who you're #querying. #asktheeditor
Editor
Thinking of submitting to me when I open to #queries again soon? Read some of my authors' work to see what I like. @AuthorWren It's a Wonderful Lie comes out 12/9 and you can pre-order now. @LeslieSulliRose Pink Guitars and Falling Stars comes out 1/6! #querytip #asktheeditor
Editor
Who's doing Nano? Remember, don't send your manuscript out immediately afterwards! Be sure to let it sit for a bit and revise before you #query. #querytip #querytrenches #amquerying #asktheeditor

Here's a #querytip for those in the #querytrenches: Always take the time to research who you are sending to. I can't tell you how many people send me "I'm looking for representation" or YA or 100000 word novel. I can't take those and I don't represent, I'm with the publisher. <3

I love YA, but CANNOT acquire it. I get so many YA queries. I can't take anything below 50K and above 75K yet I get 150,000 word manuscripts. I only take fantasy or sci-fi w/ romance. I get epics with no romance. Read the guidelines for both our sakes. #querytip #asktheeditor

Your summary/pitch in your query letter should read like the back matter of a book. When you look for a book to read, you want to be enticed w/clear goal, problem, and stakes. So do I! #querytip #asktheeditor
Editor
When it's time to query, DON'T be afraid but DO make sure you're ready. That means check the guidelines and revise, have beta or critique partners look at it, and get it in the best shape possible. #querytip #asktheeditor

Guys I'll be honest - I'm getting a LOT of YA/MG queries and though I love YA - It doesn't fit the Mystic Owl guidelines! Please read them before you #query. #MSWL #querytip #alwaysknowwhoyouquery cityowlpress.com/queries/#mysti…
