Gina 💯 @GBDolfanIs it ok to vaguely mention something, like an illness, with no explanation, then give details later in the story, or do you have to explain right away? #AskAgent #CorvisieroLit
Aoife Doyle @1adoyle#askagent I've changed my fantasy from adult to YA and cut it from 148k to 118k words. To cut more means axing scenes/chapters and am unsure what to cut. Could I query it as is and ask a future agent for help or do I need to get it under 100k?
HJ Haydt [WIP: 126K] @HJHaydtWill it impact your decision to represent if a writer has different projects in different genres?
HJ Haydt [WIP: 126K] @HJHaydtDo agents ever help name their authors' works?
Gregory D. Little @litgreg@hannahvanvels #askagent
Would an agent or publisher frown on a manuscript where a portion of it had previously been published as a short story?
HJ Haydt [WIP: 126K] @HJHaydtDo agents shy away from new writers who are querying the first book in a planned series?
(Asking for a friend... It's me. I'm the friend.)
lolita parekh @atlolis1989What difference does it make to query an agent from the same country or another country? Is it better to query from the same country you live in?
Heather L. Powell @HeatherLPowellI’m hoping it’s okay to ask ?’s though I’m not pitching. Thoughts on querying darker bks at this time? Everyone seems to be asking for upbeat, but I don’t write that. (I’ve tried) Should authors just hold off querying if their themes are darker for a bit? @CorvisieroLit #askagent
Joseph Walters @JoeWalters13@CorvisieroLit Thanks, y'all!
An abandoned young boy with a magical imagination finds a portal in the back of his apartment’s closet. He sees a whole new world over there—one with new parents, a baby brother, and maybe, if they don’t catch him, a new place to call home. #AskAgent #A #LF
HJ Haydt [WIP: 126K] @HJHaydtAmerican agents, can I query you as a Canadian writer? Will the fact that I'm in a different country play into your decision?
𝙹 𝙻 𝙼𝚒𝚍𝚍𝚕𝚎𝚝𝚘𝚗 @izziemizery@kissedbyink Thank you! ☺️☺️
Would it be better to have one more recent COMP than a recent and an older? I've been using Deborah Harkness, as it's similar in tone and style to my MS but the last in the trilogy was 2014 (standalone was 2018). Too old? #AskAgent
Kelly L. Swan Taylor @KellisLSTHere's a question that probably has no answer or too many, BUT...for those of us who write realistic, contemporary fiction:
How do we make our stories/queries sound more compelling (compared with unique, exciting fantasy or sci-fi)? #askagent
Emily Bonar @emilyjbonar@CorvisieroLit Does this agency work with Big 5 publishers or have best-selling authors? Thank you for your time. #askagent
LivMacy @MacyLiv@mcorvisiero @MZelaya8 @CorvisieroLit Do you look at everything as it comes in and then shelve it or don’t look at all until you work through each submission?#askagent
MZelaya @MZelaya8@CorvisieroLit What's the longest an author should wait for a response on a full manuscript request before realizing it's been considered a pass? #askagent
Heather L. Powell @HeatherLPowellQuestion! If you write in more than one genre, should you look for agents who rep both? This is especially stuff when you think one of your books would be a good fit, but not the other. #askagent
nicole bea @nicolebeawritesDo you have any recommendations on signs for an author to look for that may indicate when they should think about shelving or extensively reworking their project? #askagent @CorvisieroLit
Uberjoe @uberjosephB@mcorvisiero @Literary_Tara and if I self publish a book that bangs out 50 thousand copies, why do I need an agent? To me the story is what sells, if it's good it shouldn't matter if it's on the market or not. Just my 2 cents
Jenelle Stone @Jenelle_Stone@CorvisieroLit #askagent
We often hear about what markets are saturated, but what types of books are in big demand right now? Do editors ask you to look out for specific things? Or types of stories?
Uberjoe @uberjosephB@Literary_Tara @mcorvisiero #askagent why are agents so turned off by #selfpublished works?
It's not necessarily the work itself that's an issue. Agents look for original work that publishers will want. But if the work is already in the market, publishers will not look at it unless it's already selling well. They will not pick up a project that isn't selling. #AskAgent
