@annmrose Is there an etiquette limit for the number of agents one should query at a single agency? Does it change depending on the agency size? Most agencies will have a policy somewhere on their website about this. I know at Tobias it is one at a time and we are really great about sharing subs!

@annmrose At what point do you determine a manuscript is dead on submissions? Thanks for sharing your insight with us!For me they are never truly dead. But once we’ve exhausted all current available resources sometimes they need to take a little nap ❤️

@annmrose Good morning Ann, thanks for always doing this. How would you explain Voice to writers? Rejections with ‘I didn’t connect with the Voice’ is confusing. Would love your thoughts.Voice is like the way in which the story is told, diction, word choice, sentence structure, & content all wrapped into one.
How the “narrator” shows us the world around them.
I think passes on “voice” are usually less about character & more about writing style but that’s IMO

@annmrose Can you query more than one book at a time? Or would you have to wait until all queries on the first book are closed? You can, but it can get tricky when you get an offer & have to tell agents who have the query & or full of the other project that you’ve been offered rep on a project they know nothing about & do they want to see that? If they’re diff age groups/genres it gets more complicated

@annmrose What are some of the big "don't do these" people should avoid in their query letters and their sample pages?Query letter-
Get too personal - “I saw your recent vaca pics and you in the bikini! Looking hot!”
Put down other writers
Forget to tell the agent what the book is about
Be self deprecating
Demand a response

@annmrose I'm curious about book contract negotiations. Instead of asking for more money for the advance, could an agent/author ever ask for more marketing money to be guaranteed/dedicated to the book after its release?Thank you! And happy elliptical-ing!
This would be a great conversation for you to have with your agent ❤️

@annmrose Will an agent follow a prospective client on Twitter if they are considering representation? Some will some won’t
Some will just follow because they like their content
I wouldn’t read too much into a social media follow ❤️

Sabrina is querying. Eek! @SabrinaWritesNH
@annmrose I've heard when you get an offer you should let folks with your full know & give them time to get back to you. 1- Does this mean for PB authors you let everyone w/an outstanding query know? 2- How would an agent even see the offer nudge considering how bananas your inboxes are?Yes you let everyone who has a query or full know.
You just do your best in notifying them, you cannot control their inbox.

@annmrose Hi! I saw opposing arguments recently. Someone said an agent would reject a good story after seeing a sentence written incorrectly, another said they will look past this if the story is great. 🤷♀️ would love to know! 😂I can only answer for me, and one bad sentence won’t deter me in the least.

@annmrose Due to the holiday season, do you think it's polite/appreciated/a best practice etc. to hold off on sending new queries until the new year, or does it not really matter? want to be respectful of all agents' time ❤️If they are open send it if it’s ready

@annmrose If I have a full with another agent, should I mention it in all future queries? I’ve seen some discussion on this lately and I’d love to hear an agent opinion 🙂It doesn’t really matter until that full request turns into an offer of representation so you don’t have to mention just full requests. We assume you are sending to others.

@annmrose Good morning, happy elliptical! If you love a query sample, is it consistent for you as a next step to ask for either a full or a partial, or does it vary? Like, if you want to see more, is there a consistent number of pages you like to see "next"?If I love a query, I go to the synopsis and pages first and if those hold I usually ask for a full.

Kathryn Faye @KathrynFaye007
@annmrose How far behind do you think agents are in answering queries given the state of the present publishing world? How are the events affecting agents acquiring new clients? #AskAgentI still have some in my box from August (possibly a few July stragglers) if that gives you any indication.
But when publishing slows down being able to acquire and get new things out slows with it.
It’s tough, but patience is key

@annmrose Are you planning on staying open through January? I have a project I’d like to send your wayI am.

@annmrose Are you going to any writing conferences this year? Which ones have you enjoyed in the past, either as an author or agent? My calendar is open for the next year for conferences. I’m on the elliptical so looking up some of the exact ones will be challenging but I know I have a pitch session next weekend and I’ll be working with Denver SCBWI for an online workshop.

@annmrose Is it best to only query agents in your home country or can you query those abroad too?Query widely if you want. There are no rules. I’ve spoken to authors from all over the world! ❤️
