#PubTip = when an agent offers representation, ask "what is your strategy with subrights?" (audio, translation, Hollywood) It differs among agents and it's a great question to ask!

It's royalty statement season again. It's common for money in publishing to go up and down like a pinball (advances, royalties, returns, subrights deals, etc).

A royalty statement reports units paid for by retailer* to publisher (not from consumer to author)

*retailer defined as bookstore, library, Amazon.com, Target/Walmart/Costco, grocery stores, airports, book clubs, etc.

- yes, pen name/ pseudonyms are fine!
- yes, over the course of an author's career, multiple pen names are fine!
- no, you don't have to have chosen your pen name at the point you query

I can't speak for all agents but, for me, editors don't always get back to me. I'm not offended and it's just part of the process. Onwards...

- Agent has 10 business days, only, to turn around payments

- Money must go from Publisher to NON interest-bearing checking account for the Agent

Book #1 is delivered and Book #2 is due, say, in a year.

During that year, author may also write any of these things as long as it doesn't "Interfere With Timely Delivery Of Book #2"

A note on the Delivery Dates Clause in your contract...

Delivery clause doesn't mean an author can't write/ sell other books. It means author can't write/ sell other books that would interfere with on-time delivery of contracted book.
