Authors, friendly reminder to always notify us when you have an offer of representation. Don't wait til after you've accepted one! Sometimes we're still considering, and even if you love the agent who offered you never know who might be the best fit. #amquerying #querytip

I don't love when people send me submissions that acknowledge they've gone against my wishlist, but ask that I consider them as an exception. Look for an agent who's wild about your projects! There are lots of different preferences out there. Please don't waste anyone's time.Important #querytip!

I must once again shout into the ether that I do not represent text-only picture book projects. Lots of agents do, just not me! My inbox is wild enough without having to weed through projects that don't meet my guidelines. I get probably 5 of these types of submissions a day. 馃槱Please make sure to read agents' submission guidelines! It saves everyone a lot of time and trouble. #amquerying #querytip

Lately I've been getting a lot of queries comping To Kill a Mockingbird... please try to pick comp titles from the last few years! We all know the classics too, but agents need a sense that your book will fit into the contemporary market. #querytip #amquerying #writingcommunity

A #querytip heading into 2021: read submission guidelines! I鈥檓 seeing an uptick in queries with no material, and I can鈥檛 consider your book without a sense of your writing. I ask for first chapter attached, but any equivalent amount (5-15 pgs) works fine. #amquerying

In giving me your book summary or logline for a query or submission package, focus more on the plot than on your themes. I want conflict, stakes and motivation - show me in the plot how these elements drive the story and shape the characters.Completely agree. #querytip #amquerying
