Great post from Hannah Fergessen (@HannahFergesen) about the importance of making your sample pages and manuscript strong. It's not just about the query. #querytip publishingcrawl.com/2018/05/18/theβ¦

Our agency has submission guidelines for a reason. Please donβt query me outside of QueryManager or you will be wasting your time. #querytip

If youβre #querying me with LGBT fiction, donβt kill the LGBT character! Same for POC! Weβre not here to be a life lesson to the cis, hetero, white, community! pic.twitter.com/5yo2PEEtnBAnd thatβs about it for now. Thanks for following along on this #querytip thread.

My clients will attest to my returning work to them with questions like, βwhy are they feeling this way?β and βhow does this make them feel?β I want to experience the sting of rejection with your character. Want to shed tears of joy with them at their success. #querytip pic.twitter.com/kdcyOqVerNIf youβre #querying me with a romance, neither the hero nor their love interest should die. Thatβs not a happily ever after. Unless youβre writing a paranormal ghost story which will be quite difficult to place. #justsayin #corpsebridenotwithstanding #querytip

When I pass on a work saying I couldnβt connect with the writing, itβs usually because Iβm given flat writing. Characters I can barely see set against a beige background with little to no stakes. What are they feeling? Make me feel it too! pic.twitter.com/VFMaptAGZVMy clients will attest to my returning work to them with questions like, βwhy are they feeling this way?β and βhow does this make them feel?β I want to experience the sting of rejection with your character. Iβve seen some great #queries coming in which always makes it exciting to dive in to the sample pages. Unfortunately, Iβve had to pass on many as the pages are not as engaging as the query. Too much passive voice, too much telling. Little to no showing. pic.twitter.com/hPl9ufhby9I want to feel completely immersed in your world. Want to connect with your character in a way that makes me root for their success. I want to know, in your synopsis, that the stakes are high. Take me on your adventure! #querytip

Probably not the best query opening. #querytip pic.twitter.com/ZMRbMy89eCPlease donβt do this! Iβve seen similar among my queries. #querytip

I am DEFINITELY not the person to query w/ anything remotely tied to White Nationalism. That's not the #OwnVoices I'm looking for. #querytip
