@KathrynFaye007 If you're the writer only, then as part of the proposal, you'll need the full script. If you're the writer and illustrator, you need fully rendered sample pages in the proposal, not the full GN. Check out this link for the pitch: victoriaying.com/blog/2020/9/11…Literary Agent

@GalltZackerLit #AskGZLA If we've had editor interest in pitch events from Big 5 (or 4) do we mention it somewhere? Does it make a difference? Thx!You can mention it, though in the end, it's all about the pages for us. #askGZLA

#askGZLA Hi all!! She wouldn’t really pose. Attitude problems. Anyway, do you believe that the publishing industry is really changing and becoming more inclusive when it comes to diverse books? pic.twitter.com/P17ctgkLgbIt's a lot better these days and ever evolving, a work-in-progress really. Not something that's "done," but so long as we continue to push, we can continue making striders. #AskGZLA

Are you looking for #ownvoices YA SF? And how do you feel about MG books with protagonists who have disabilities? #AskGZLAWe're always open to #ownvoices and disabled protagonists! I don't do a ton of sci fi, but am open to it (when I reopen to kid lit). #AskGZLA

@GalltZackerLit #askGZLA #askagentHow do you feel about a middle grade novel that switched from the main character being a girl in third person, but when she turns into a dragon it's first person?
Mowgli the big cat paying the cat tax below: pic.twitter.com/UsDcl9pm2F
Mowgli cuteness! As far as the POV switch, I say if you do it well, than it works! Hard to say without seeing it, but it doesn't hurt to play with perspective. #askGZLA

On submissions, if they ask for query, synopsis and 10 pages is that just the query or include the 1-page synopsis? #askGZLAI don't have a cat, but here's my husky pic.twitter.com/sLN0ccHCqi
Adorable! The synopsis is separate, so be sure to include that in addition to to your query and pages. #askGZLA

@christiemegill @GalltZackerLit SO CUTE! That's a toughie, since it's so subjective. I know I'm looking fresh concepts and voice, something I haven't seen done to death. Something unique. #askGZLAWhen querying, be sure to indicate what makes your story unique. #askGZLA

Christie Megill ❄️ is full of holiday cheer @christiemegill
@GalltZackerLit Thanks for being here! Please accept my cute tax offering along with a #askGZLA question. With the MG market being so strong right now, what makes a new, debut middle grade book stand out to agents & editors? pic.twitter.com/MGFpQ0XsyJSO CUTE! That's a toughie, since it's so subjective. For queries, it looks like some agents just want a teaser of the plot, and others want to know the ending including spoilers. If it’s not specified on their submission page/website, what’s the default? #askGZLA pic.twitter.com/cxItiaCrz6Queries shouldn't include the ending of the story--that's for the synopsis, a separate document some agents request. #askGZLA

Anup 📝📚 @anuponthenet
#askgzla I have wondered what you are trying to look at when you ask, "How you came to write that story"Is there a deeper meaning?
We're usually just trying to get a better sense of the creative and why they wrote that story :) #askGZLA

@anuponthenet I will be honest and tell you that it's not a 'game' I like to play. The stories that most grab me are the ones that surprise me. So impossible to forecast ;) #askGZLATrue! Though I will say that what I like about MG is that it doesn't quite follow trends that way YA does, so it's usually pretty open. MG fantasy is big, as is contemporary, so I expect that'll continue. #askGZLA

lizzy is doing NaNoWriMo! @lizzy_writes
Is NA becoming more of a viable genre one could query with, or is it better to market your MS as a YA or Adult (depending on which one it more leans to)? #askGZLANA isn't really a thing domestically these days--It tends to be categorized as erotic stories featuring the 18-early 20s group. better to classify it as YA or adult, depending on age/story. #askGZLA

@enlightenedpen Recent sales can help, though keep in mind that not all are reported in PW/PM. Reading the acknowledgements pages of books you love is a good place to get a sense of what an agent has repped, too! #askGZLAYou can ask how many clients they rep, but in general, agents only take on as many as they can spend time on, so that doesn't really tell you much. If an agent offers, they generally know they have the time to commit. #askGZLA

How do we research agents? I’m aware of Manuscript Wish List but what other factors should we keep in mind besides what their wish list is? I’m seeing some agents say PB bios have gotten much harder to sell. Have you found this to be true? What about NF PBs that aren’t bios? Any likes/dislikes there? #askgzlaI don't do a ton of PB nonfiction, but PB bios have gotten saturated, so it really needs to be standout to make it past acquisitions. #askGZLA

@ErikThurman Something commercial is something that taps into broad audience appeal, like could it be described as a move/TV show, something very hook-y. #askGZLAPublishing is very bottom-line driven, and while there are editors who take on quieter, "riskier" projects, it can take time to find them. #askGZLA

#askGZLA #askagent One major decline I see from acquisitions is that work isn’t “commercial” enough. To you, what defines commercial, and how do we make room for work outside of this scope but are just as equally important?Something commercial is something that taps into broad audience appeal, like could it be described as a move/TV show, something very hook-y. #askGZLA
