Down the road, once the book is under contract, the cover is typically a fun topic of conversation. And it does often include the author. #AskGZLA

Ah, YA is all about being self-centered IMHO. MG is another story, but even then! Give me your MC's journey and let me go along for the ride, whatever it may be. #AskGZLA

Feels like in this scenario, that author has hit that point ... maybe. But with clients, I listen to see how they're really feeling ... are they tired of working on it? or are they being asked to go in a direction they don't want to go? #AskGZLA

Yes, but remember that we're human first and also ... we're REALLY good at forgetting things on purpose (like, the fact that we're adults and we have to read a MG novel as if we were 10-years-old). I love that skill set! #AskGZLA

Just adds to your story, so mention it, but is an MFA necessary ... nope! #AskGZLA

Really, finished is the way to go, I say. If you have history that pertains to the query (including former agents), do mention it ... you'll have to at some point anyway and better to be upfront. #AskGZLA

Story reigns supreme, so lead with that, since I suspect those characters have some story to tell. Agree that a 'look in the life of characters' is tough, so what's their story??? #AskGZLA

Do what makes sense for you, but just know that there are a ton of avenues for finding creatives. I guess the best way to say it is, don't put all your eggs in one basket and do what feels natural and right for you. #AskGZLA

Oh well, there is more to the story, no doubt, and the work that goes into developing a client's career as a whole is a huge part of that. We do go 'beyond the sale.' For us it's about making sure that the work of our clients has the best reach possible, in every avenue. #AskGZLA

Find an agent ;) #AskGZLA But seriously, if you write for children or YA, there is a ton of info online to help with this (an org that comes to mind immediately is scbwi, but there are others)

That's not to say that others don't do any of those things, but our energy and resources go to that and more :) I do LOVE this team. #AskGZLA

Nope (although in doing homework note that some people have different preferences, of course) - just make sure the topic is been dealt with from an authentic place. #AskGZLA

Something to look at, but not everyone reports to Pub Marketplace. But yes, important that an agent knows the business enough to be IN the business. Also, remember that those who are staring out will have few deals - they can be amazing agents! We all start somewhere #AskGZLA

As long as it's for the sake of the story and as long as it moves the story forward, I'm OK with it, but it needs to feel and be authentic to the story. #AskGZLA

You can, yes, but they are harder for people to envision since the illustrations are key to telling the story. Still, that doesn't mean it's impossible! #AskGZLA
