Friendly #querytip reminder when you are #amquerying that in order for me to consider your work, I *really* need your submission to have a query letter somewhere in it, preferably where my form asks for one! Don't skip this please!

@StorySorcery That you had to *REALLY* personalize every query by finding things you had in common with every agent 😅This
No need to include a personalization (for me at least) if you don’t have one. If I rep what you have that’s good enough and you don’t have to tell me that in the query—I already know.
Don’t make querying harder on yourself than it already is ❤️ #amquerying #querytip

Publishers rely on comps to gauge sales of potential projects. Hence one author’s success can lift all boats in the category. I’ve seen this many times. Likewise failures make some topics radiation. #pubtip

Do not @ people with your book promo. Do not @ authors with your negative reviews about their work. Do not neg on other authors in your queries or treat them as your adversaries. #PubTip #ProTip #publishing

Someone just submitted a political thriller to me as a middle grade. QueryManager won't let you submit political thrillers to me since I don't rep them. Just a #querytip, don't do this. Agents rep sections of the industry they know. I would be a terrible agent for this project.

Some context for anyone thinking "just buy everything..."Agents send me good shit that I attempt to prioritize (by sub date? excitement level? what I have less of? which is going fastest? still working that one out) & choose between.
It's a Never Ending Struggle, my good folx. twitter.com/AmandaIsA_Ram/…
This is a fantastic breakdown of the very difficult decision editors make when acquiring works and in some ways similar to the way agents approach queries as well. #pubtip

@StorytellerMatt Please do submit to other agents! It is never in an author's best interest to give any agent an exclusive look. If you get an offer, just notify the other agents who have it!I'm working through them as I can. :-)
A good #querytip for the #amquerying crowd - it is NOT to your benefit to query only 1 agent at a time.
If your dream agent wants it - & is a good agent - they won't be threatened by other agents offering too.
Get an offer, notify us all, & then YOU choose to accept/reject US.

Your friendly reminder why agents generally don't give personalized feedback unless we request a manuscript! My oldest query here is January 11th, so this is 15 days worth of queries. #querytip pic.twitter.com/aybd1x2uUuAlso friendly reminder that 95% of my work hours (I work full time, every week) are dedicated to my clients (contracts, submissions, edits, calls, strategy, more contract issues, etc) so all of this gets done outside that 95%. We WANT to read! We WANT you to succeed! #querytip

If your word count doesn't fit exactly into our criteria, but I love the novel and you're willing to raise or lower it, I will still consider it. #querytip #querytrenches

Just because an editor passes on your manuscript doesn't mean it isn't good. It just means it isn't right for them. Keep trying! #querytip

1 of 2: Having been in the #querytrenches as an author, having an editor request your full, then pass, I remember thinking, "what does that mean?" That is a tough answer because its different for every editor. #querytip

-Do not put the copyright notice. As soon as you write something, you have a natural copyright to it.
Formatting doesn't make or break a project but the care & professionalism signals to agents/editors the kind of author they can expect. #pubtip

#querytip Please make sure to send your query to the email address the agent specifies. Every day I get queries to my general email, and those take me longer to read--much longer.

What makes me stop reading and/or reject a manuscript? Too many, or poorly executed broken/incomplete sentences. I don't care if everyone else is doing it. Would you jump off a bridge if everyone else was? #querytip #amquerying
