This is to no one in particular but:

Responding to a #mswl tweet with "but what about (something similar)" is not productive for you or your book.

If you think it's close, submit through the proper channels! Mention the tweet and why you think your book is what I'm looking for

For me, at least, #mswl is a guideline. Not a hard and fast parameter for what I'm looking for. It should give a glimpse into what an agent is feeling at the particular moment.

But mostly, we want to be surprised. So if you think you're close, shoot us a query.

To be more #mswl specific:

I really want a second world fantasy. Non-portal, a really lived-in and fully realized world. Rich and textured, this feels like a WORLD.

Non-chosen one stories. Morally complicated. Fun. Deep. Emotional.

(sincere #mswl forthcoming alert)

I need some fantasy. Been selling a lot of SF lately but I need some wizards and witches and magic and dragons and swords and sorcery.

#mswl My kingdom for something akin to Rick & Morty.

Replying to @samroebuck

#mswl i.e. something that utilizes tropes in such a unique and profane and profound way that it teaches you something new. Also drinking.

#mswl here's this guy who spent his entire life working, striving to do this One Thing. And people doubted him! He harbored that resentment.

#mswl I love a good "get the band back together" story. Throw in some pirates and magic and *chef finger kiss*

#mswl - Chaotic Neutral against a Lawful Good is usually opportune for a few solid laughs.

#mswl - But as always with Character Alignments, use them as starting points and give me plenty of shades of gray.

#mswl - Lawful Evil - These are fun villains to have because you know WHY they're evil. Like Tywin Lannister.

Replying to @samroebuck

#mswl - Neutral Evil - tough villain to have because it verges on Evil for sake of Evilness. Just have bad people. Like Always Sunny!
