Romance

Stacey Donovan @Donovanesque · 14 Nov 2018

Hey friends, since this comes up a lot in submissions, I thought I'd talk a little about POINT OF VIEW. We prefer either 1st person or 3rd person deep POV: in 3rd person romance, we like the POV to alternate between the 2 main characters. #amwriting #amediting #MSWL

Time for some #mswl tweets! Here's a peek at what I'd love to see in my query inbox. Romance: historical--especially diverse historical--rom suspense, and contemp romcom. As a general rule, I'm far more likely to fall for a story that makes me laugh than one that makes me cry.

I would LOVE more cute, sweet romance submissions with black, Asian, or Latino main characters! 65K or more, winter, Valentine’s Day, or spring esp. ❄️❤️🌸Agents, I’d love to get these as proposals, too! #MSWL #Hallmark #OwnVoices #amwriting #publishing

I'd love to see a duo of switched at birth stories with the characters finding out as adults. And the discovery leading to them each finding love matches. Either inspirational romantic suspense or contemporary romance. #mswl

Ali Herring @HerringAli · 1 Nov 2018

#MSWL alt-reality dark ages YA #F w/kick-butt female protag knight wielding sword & magical powers, but prefers sword. Equally bad-a male seeming antag who end up fighting the same force, one darker than any one imagines. Dark tumultuous rough raw setting & full-tension romance.

“Cute queer contemporary romances, like EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU or SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA” @kurestinarmada #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/

I love historical fiction and there isn't nearly enough of it in #YA fiction. Would love to see more #YA #HistoricalFiction in my inbox whether it's general historical, fantasy, romance, mystery, or something else. #MSWL

"Would love an East/West Germany or Berlin Wall historical with a romantic hook. Something sweeping and heartbreaking." @carlywatters #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/

Ali Herring @HerringAli · 27 Oct 2018

#MSWL would love a Christmas romance filled with magic realism. Give me Santa, hidden secrets, wishes coming true, North Pole, lots of snow, whatever it is, let me feel the magic!

Linda (not very spooky) Epstein @LindaEpstein · 26 Oct 2018

REMINDER: I'll be closed to queries after midnight EST October 31st. I'm currently open only to #YA by #ownvoices & #POC authors & I'm looking for realistic contemporary; magical realism; SciFi; speculative fiction; romantic; feminist; or Jewish. #mswl #WeNeedDiverseBooks

A Woman Reading @AWomanReading · 26 Oct 2018

ISO of #WOC in historical romance, especially Regency or Highlander, traditional mystery, cozy mystery, domestic thriller, science fiction, fantasy, supernatural, southern gothic. #MSWL

Stacey Donovan @Donovanesque · 25 Oct 2018

I say this all the time, but the best way to know what kinds of things @HallmarkPublish is looking for is to watch a few current Hallmark movies. #CountdowntoChristmas is coming right up, but we'd like winter, spring, summer, and fall romances, too! #amwriting #querying #MSWL

Emily Rodmell @EmilyRodmell · 23 Oct 2018

I kind of want to see a contemporary romance submission that involves no children but a lot of puppies instead. Maybe a litter of adorableness brings the hero and heroine together. #MSWL

Stephanie Doig @stephaniedoig · 20 Oct 2018

This is really interesting (and I would love to read a romance featuring a heroine who held one of these jobs.) #mswl The person running your favorite football team’s Twitter is probably a woman theverge.com/2018/9/19/1785… via @Verge
