Naomi Davis @NaomisLitPixIf you have received rejections lately, you absolutely should keep querying. But if this thread made you think "Well there was that one scene..." or "well I did decide to trim that to be like Writer McFamousDude..." GO FIX IT FIRST. Send me something mindblowing. You CAN do this.
And if you read to the end (and don't hate me now), #MSWL Dynamic adult sci fi & fantasy that breaks the mold, vivid settings, powerful stakes, YA #SFF, diversity across race, gender/sexuality, neurodivergence, and mythologies I've never seen before.
Polished per above, please.
Ooh, #mswl day! Right now I’m craving great SF/horror mashups, general dark horror, PI mysteries, gothic suspense, and dark thrillers - YA & adult! Diverse voices always a plus!
I am so proud to represent MG and YA based on diverse mythologies and cultures like @thebookGLUTTON’s CHARLIE HERNANDEZ AND THE LEAGUE OF SHADOWS, and @KSekouM’s TRISTAN STRONG PUNCHES A HOLE IN THE SKY, but I want more! #MSWL in MG, YA, and Adult.
Is it still #MSWL day?
Someone send me an adult SFF novel centering a messy, diverse found family who have to overthrow the empire, or uncover a plot, or fight off invaders—but at the end of the day, you know they’re doing it to save each other as much as to “save the world.”
In summary, my #MSWL incl. #diverse & #ownvoices works:
- #SFF, space opera, cyberpunk & UF
- #WomensFic feat. WOC esp. Latina MC
- #Horror, #suspensethriller w/ unique take on classic or gothic horror
-All #Romance esp. #LGBTQIA
Seeking: Adult: suspense/thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary romance, rom-com, & mysteries. YA: suspense/ thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, mysteries, historical, & contemporary. MG: Sci-fi, fantasy, contemporary, adventure, mysteries, horror, & humor. #diversity #MSWL
Cassandra Farrin @CassaCassaCassaI will be posting a thread of #MSWL items for @amberjackpub later today. -Agents- may direct subs to email@example.com (include SUBMISSIONS in subject line). Gentle reminder to writers that this is not a pitching contest.
Here's our official #MSWL! I'm particularly into diverse YA/Adult books, being a biracial/Black woman in an interracial relationship, so send lots our way! I'll post a few of my own personal wish list items later tonight!
moving on to adult romance now:
*this goes for everything, but I will repeat it - more diverse characters and a range of diversity rep
*I consider any heat level, but "moderate" is my favorite, not too sweet and not too spicy, it's just right for me
Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharpI have a short break now between the close of a meeting and the start of a new edit so here is a quick thread of my current #MSWL 😊
Happy MSWL Day!
I am an editor for a small romance publisher. We accept submissions from authors and agents. Here is what I want to see more of:
my main interest is YA - all genres - I'm open to nearly *anything* in YA
I'd like to see more:
*diverse lead characters and a range of diversity rep
*more queer characters in sci-fi and fantasy especially
*stories that explore uncommon places and themes
I'm also all about epic, sweeping fantasies. I'd love to see thoughtfully built, fresh-feeling worlds (bonus points if they contain rich magic systems), inhabited by complex characters. And I'm always excited to see fantasy from diverse voices! #MSWL
Happy #MSWL day! I acquire *only* adult fiction w mystery, suspense, & crime elements, but in those categories, I'm looking for concepts featuring:
+ Domestic susp w *fresh* hook
+ Small-town mysteries w series potential
+ Dark, twisted, macabre
+ diverse voices, own voices
Saritza🇵🇷Hernandez @epubagentYou know what I’d love to see done well? An erotic romance story set in a brothel in space. Basically, The Expanse meets Copper. #MSWL
Still looking for a well-done erotic romance story set in a brothel in space. Would also take SFF space opera without romantic element set in a brothel in space. Give me tons of aliens, a diverse cast & a kick-ass Madam! #MSWL
Another gentle reminder: The Amberjack publishing team as a whole is diverse (often intersectionally!) and women-led. While we welcome stories by all authors, we strongly encourage stories by authors of color and other underrepresented backgrounds. #MSWL
Stacy Whitman @stacylwhitmanAnd as far as diversity goes, I am particularly seeking new authors of color and indigenous authors. #MSWL
We are still actively seeking contemporary Native American narratives for MG & YA, novel and graphic novel. I'd also love more books about black girls/by black women.
Me too!! #mswl
