#MSWL (when we re-open for unsolicited subs, or for a #NewVisionsAward entry, or agented subs): a YA novel that digs into this history. Perhaps a dual narrative of someone from that time period and someone from the present? I'm not sure. smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/its…

Dr. Debbie Reese @debreese
Ah! @JerryCraft asks @Ebonyteach about possibilities in bks for kids that are about slavery. How to do that is something Dr. Thomas has been thinking about for a long time. She's wondering about adventure stories that feature Af Am resistance as a possibility.I've been hoping for this kind of book in my inbox--hint, hint, authors! (After the holidays at this point--we're closed for submissions while we catch up/go on break. But do please send it to me after Jan. 2.) #MSWL

Stacy Whitman @stacylwhitman
Rewatching the 90s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and what hits me every time is that I forget that the plot revolves so much around the accusation of Hero not being a virgin. The parts I remember are the running around conspiring to make Benedic and Beatrice fall in love w/ each other.I've often said I'd LOVE a YA retelling of Much Ado, and I stand by that, but I'd love a feminist reclaiming of it, too. That's a #MSWL, by the way--YA graphic novel retelling of Much Ado about Nothing starring modern-day POC teens. What would such a retelling look like?

Dude parachuted into Nazi-occupied Norway with five of his bros, infiltrated a Nazi facility by climbing down a 200 foot ravine and entering through a window, blew the whole place to fuck-all, and escaped by out-skiing 3,000 Nazi soldiers for 200 miles.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world…

Re: this thread, if someone wants to write me a fantasy novel about a kid who goes to magic school but realizes the entire structure of the magical world needs to be overthrown, I would be 100% there for that. Bonus points if they have to side with the dark wizards to do it #MSWL twitter.com/dreamoforgonon…ditto to this #MSWL

Honestly, so much is just not being told yet that there's such a wide variety of diverse stories I just can't say I want till it shows up on my door. Best thing of course is a great story, well written. #MSWL

Also actively seeking Muslim stories, both contemporary and SFF. In particular, science fiction, as I'd love to see stories of POC we don't normally get to see having adventures in the future. Also goes for SF starring indigenous characters. #MSWL

And as far as diversity goes, I am particularly seeking new authors of color and indigenous authors. #MSWLWe are still actively seeking contemporary Native American narratives for MG & YA, novel and graphic novel. I'd also love more books about black girls/by black women.
Again, the Tu Books submission guidelines are at leeandlow.com/writers-illust…. Check those for full information. Also please take a look at our list--what we've published, what we've announced to be coming down the pipeline--for a better idea of my tastes. #MSWL

I am particularly looking for MG and young YA that has strong appeal for middle school/junior high students in the school/library market. Literary quality with strong commercial hook to get kids reading. #MSWL

Exception: I am starting to seek MG & YA nonfiction graphic novels with specific appeal to the school and library market #MSWL
I love SFF with strong curricular connections that would appeal to teachers/librarians incorporating them into curriculum/pairing with classics

Just realized it's #MSWL day. I've tweeted occasional MSWLs whenever they've come up, so feel free to search my history, but here's the gist of what I'm looking for:
All books must star IPOC
I only publish MG and YA fiction & graphic novels (see exceptions below)
