I won't be able to drop by #moodpitch before this too-short week ends, but my queries are open for work that aligns with my #MSWL, and feel free to include your mood board if you have one: manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/romaβ¦
(I'm strongly prioritizing adult submissions at the moment!)

But please DON'T send me novels where someone dies with their inner turmoil tragically unresolved! I'm here for moral/emotional struggles that lead toward hope, if not happiness; not into screeds about the futility of existence and the impossibility of being truly good #MSWL

i would love to see more stories of characters navigating well-deserved guilt. i read a lot of books about processing guilt and the arc is almost always the character realizing they arenβt truly at fault. but what about characters who really, genuinely are responsible?Send me your novels about guilt, shame, regret, seeking atonement, earning forgiveness; redemption arcs for someone who isn't necessarily a villain, but who has made choices with irrevocable consequences and has to find a way to live with their actions and keep going. #MSWL

Obligatory #MSWL tag, but keep in mind these are "classics" as defined by my American education in the white Western canon; I'd love to see novels or narrative nonfiction engaging with similar themes and historical eras, but with a more expansive, inclusive worldview

It's #MSWL day so I'm sharing all the things I want to see in my inbox! Since there's a character limit, I'll just link to my MSWL page. I'm looking for a broad range of material in the adult, MG, & YA spaces:

Iβm not the right fit for: military/police novels, βreturn to hometownβ romances, fantasy, science fiction, most young adult, and WWI/WWII historical fiction.
Literary Assistant
Iβm on the lookout for family sagas, new adult-ish protagonists, and anything that explores the human experience with nuance.
Literary Assistant
In literary fiction, Iβm interested in messy people making tough choices, campus novels, unlikeable narrators (especially women who either gaslight, girlboss, or gatekeep) who may or may not win you over, and atmospheric writing styles.
Literary Assistant
In historical fiction, Iβd prefer stories not set in Western Europe or the USA. Hidden histories and female-led retellings are also up my alley.

Some tweet-sized updates: For book club fiction, I love voice-driven writing, a social commentary that resonates with the current culture, or a critique on the ideals of femininity.

#amquerying writers, I'd love to see:
β¨οΈA cosy fantasy like Legends and Lattes - magic meets the mundane in mythical wedding planners or dragons at drama school
πA dreamy fairy-tale inspired romantasy (soulmates are a plus)
πA twisty Knives Out-esque murder mystery

#amwriting & #amquerying writers, I'm looking for contemporary cosy crime in an unconventional setting, a character-driven WW2 story with female espionage (think Heather Morris), and a Lucy Foley-esque locked room psychological thriller that revolves around toxic friendship #mswl

what if I said this was a #mswl

honestly? #mswl for a grounded/speculative story featuring an Ellen Ripley-esque character at its heart: a working mother (in this house Alien: Isolation *is* canon, tyvm), full of grit and tenacity, *excellent* at her job, no romantic ties to speak of, a utility-fashion icon,,,

An army officer kisses Mars inside a porcelain cemetery.if you take Mars to mean the Roman god of war, this is a hell of a #mswl vibe

absolutely fascinated by the ongoing fall of FTX/crypto and would definitely not mind seeing a smart, incisive literary thriller on the subject π #mswl

is it weird if I say I want to read a speculative novel, similar to the evolution of the Goncharov meme, where a collective unreality is collaborated on by a wide and disparate community, until eventually the lines between what's true and what isn't are thoroughly blurred #mswl
