It's HERE! Find out what our editors are wishing for this October. #amwriting bit.ly/2pA9rtb pic.twitter.com/YzDn2SFB3o

My #mswl is so short this month that you might miss it, so I'll repeat it here:
"I really want to see more YA submissions with nonbinary lead characters. Any genre or type."
That's it. *grabby hands* Now give it to me.

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

and that's all I have time for, folks! I can't tweet everything, so if you're not sure about something, send it to me anyway
it might be right for another editor and if not, the worst I can say is it's not a good fit
best of luck to you all - can't wait to read your book!

also looking for womens fiction with or without romance:
*stories that focus on some aspect of the female experience (the label "womens fic" is not entirely accurate for all experiences)
*stories that make you think
*stories that make you feel
*stories that are a fresh take
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on adult romance:
*romantic suspense - any kind
*serious or fun, dark theme or light
*paranormal or sci-fi element is ok too
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on adult romance:
*sexy romantic comedy
*looking for a fresh take on tried-and-true tropes
*looking for laugh-out-loud humor
*looking for unique situations/conflicts and character relationships
*a fun story that also has emotional depth and resonance
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

moving on to adult romance now:
*this goes for everything, but I will repeat it - more diverse characters and a range of diversity rep
*I consider any heat level, but "moderate" is my favorite, not too sweet and not too spicy, it's just right for me
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on NA:
more queer romance please and thanks
more trans and genderqueer characters
in contemp, PNR, UF, RS, SF, everything
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on NA:
I really want a ballet book in NA contemp romance where both love interests are dancers in the same company - even better if they are rivals of some sort
this can be f/f, m/m, or m/f
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

okay moving on to NA now:
*romantic suspense
*fun RS with witty, flirty banter
*adventure-y RS that goes to interesting places
*a light paranormal or sci-fi element is ok but emphasis on "light"
*must be firmly NA - characters still in training or just finished
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on YA:
a new take on a teen Sherlock Holmes
I would really like a book told through Irene Adler's POV
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on YA:
I want a queer mermaid book
I want a queer pirate book
both of those in one? yes that too
better yet - make it sci-fi - space pirates and space mermaids and they're all queer
#MSWL

Lydia Sharp @lydia_sharp · Sep 12

still on YA:
*mystery/thrillers w/ atypical narrative structure and/or mixed media formats
*paranormal that feels fresh
*adventure-driven stories
*anything with a high-stakes plot
*fairytale retellings that feel fresh
*smart contemporary that makes me laugh and cry
#MSWL

I have a short break now between the close of a meeting and the start of a new edit so here is a quick thread of my current #MSWL 😊
Happy MSWL Day!
I am an editor for a small romance publisher. We accept submissions from authors and agents. Here is what I want to see more of:

my main interest is YA - all genres - I'm open to nearly *anything* in YA
I'd like to see more:
*diverse lead characters and a range of diversity rep
*more queer characters in sci-fi and fantasy especially
*stories that explore uncommon places and themes
#MSWL

This does not apply to submissions I'm already considering before today

well
my February #mswl went up on the Entangled blog in March instead of February but I am currently closed to submissions - whoopsies
so
if you have something that fits my wish list posted in the below link and you submit during March, I will consider it
